An upstream column renaming change (`order_timestamp` renamed to `order_event_utc`) was deployed to production Silver tables yesterday without prior dependency notice. The change broke 14 executive Tableau dashboards, 6 dbt models, and 3 Snowflake data shares during the CEO's monthly business review. The engineering team had no automated end-to-end lineage graph or impact analysis tool to detect downstream dependencies prior to merge. Engineering must implement automated column-level lineage tracking and a pre-deployment impact analysis engine in CI/CD.
